Symantec Endpoint 11 will not install due to Windows Update pending installs.

Original Title: Symantec Endpoint 11 will not install due to other pending installs. Symantec technical support stated that I have Windows Updates that are "Stuck" and that is why Endpoint will not install.

Recently Symantec Endpoint Live Update stopped functioning.  The error message said to re-install the live update client but each time I tried the installation would fail. I completely removed Endpoint and then tried to re-install with the same results.  Symantec tech support investigated the problem and found that there were some Windows Updates that did not completely install and said that is what is causing the Endpoint installation to fail each time.  They advised me to contact Windows tech support to get the Windows Update issue fixed.

Hi littlemac53225,

1.      What is the operating system installed on your computer?

2.      Have you noticed if any Windows Update failed to install?

Let`s check to see if there are any failed updates. Refer to the below mentioned link to know how to check update history.

See which Windows updates are installed - Windows 7

See which Windows updates are installed - Windows Vista

If you find any failed update then, then double-click on it to know the update error and the Knowledge Base (KB) number.

However, let’s check to see if the following helps.

Step 1: Check for updates and see if there are any available updates to install them. If the updates fail to install, then note down the error code.

Install Windows updates - Windows 7

Install Windows updates - Windows Vista

Step 2: You can try the following if the updates fail to install.

Windows 7:

Run Windows Update troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Open the Windows Update troubleshooter

Windows Vista:

Try to reset the Windows Update Components and see if it helps. Refer the below mentioned article for the same.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

Hope this helps!

Hi Syed,

I am running Windows 7 32 Bit

I had 3 updates that continually failed for about a week; KB2279264, KB2277947, KB2251419  and then they finally went through.  Don't know why they were failing but they did go through and it does not appear there are any others waiting out there.

I checked the windows Update Site and no Updates are currently available.

I ran the Windows Update troubleshooter and it gave me the message "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem"

Not sure where to go next.

Is anyone from Microsoft monitoring this?  Thought I would have an answer by this time?

Just as an F.Y.I. I tried the Symantec Utillity "CleanWipe" today to assure that all Symantec componenets were removed from my machine and Endpoint would still not install on my machine.  The installation starts and then is says "Stopping Services" and then it goes to "Rolling Back Changes".  After this occurs if you go to Control Panel>Windows Update> It shows that the computer requires a restart and the Shield with the Red X is present.

Any ideas?

Symantec Endpoint 11 [still?] will not install due to other pending installs.

Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):

1. Did you upgrade to Win7 or is it a brand-new computer?

2. What anti-virus application or security suite is CURRENTLY installed and is your subscription current?

3. Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the computer?

4. Did a Norton or McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)
