Service Pack did not install. Reverting changes

I have a problem with the installation of SP 2. I followed the instruction to install the service pack but then when the laptop restarted, the message that appeared on the screen is that "Service Pack did not install. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"

The notification after starting is " The string universal unique identifier (UUID) is invalid"

Error: RPC_S_INVALID_STRING_UUID (0x800706a9)

I've tried the solution  2 and solution 3 also as per instructed at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/949358 but proble is still the same

I'm using Dell Inspiron 1318 with Windows Vista Home Premium

Looking forward to receiving your instruction

Hi Linh Tao,

Thank you for posting.

You may try SFC scan once from the Safemode and check if that works.

If the result was negative then, we shall go with Inplace upgrade of Vista.

** Steps to Inplace Upgrade of Windows Vista:

2. Remove all third party CD and DVD burning software.

5. Uncheck the following three components and then click on Ok.

• .Net Framework 3.0
