Joystick won't work with Combat Flight Simulator WWII Europe Series. Help??

I have new HP Pavilion Elite e9220y, AMD Phenom II X4 910 Processor, ATI Radeon HD 4350 Graphics Card, 8 GB DDR3 System memory, 1 terabyte Hard Drive with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.  I loaded up my old version of Combat Flight Simulator WWII Europe Series and that worked fine.  For some reason, the Game will not recognise my Sidewinder Joystick.  I've loaded the Joystick and gone under the control panel and calibrated the joystick.  I've gone under settings in the game and I keep getting a Notice saying you Joystick has been Changed from %$ to ^ or some other goofy code.  Anyway, I can't get my Joystick to work.   I need help???

Hi,

What happens when you connect the joy stick?
Do you get any error message?

I suggest you to follow these steps and check for the device.

1.      In Control Panel, open Game Controllers. To do this, use one of the following methods:

a.    Click StartCollapse this imageExpand this image, type joy.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

2.      Click your game controller, and then click Properties.

3.      On the Test tab, test the game controller to verify functionality.

If it does not work after calibration, you can check running the game in compatibility mode, here are the steps:

Open the Program Compatibility troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Programs, click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows.
Follow the instructions in the troubleshooter.

If you cannot install a program, insert the installation disc for the program and, using the troubleshooter, browse to the program's setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The troubleshooter is not designed to work on programs that have an .msi file name extension.
