Unable to install Windows updates, Error code: 8024800A.

Original title: Cannot install updates on Windows8. Error message code 8024800A. Restarting has not helped, nor has troubleshooting. Can anyone assist please

When I try to install Window Updates I continually get a message  Error Code 8024800A.  It tells me to go to trouble shooting which I have done, but nothing seems to work.  I have shut the computer down TWICE as requested, but it also did not work.

My last successful updates were late February. Once a week I restart my computer to receive any updates but none have come through.

Can anyone assist please

Hi,

Please answer the questions below, so that we can get back to you with appropriate resolution.

Have you installed any third party security software?

You may try the following steps and check if these steps help you in resolving the issue.

Method 1: Run Windows update troubleshooter which will automatically fix some common problems with Windows Update.

a.       Press Windows + W key on the keyboard.

b.      Type troubleshooting in the search tab and press Enter.

c.       Click View all on left panel.

d.      Click Windows Update, new window will popup.

e.       Follow the on screen instructions.

Method 2: Run these commands in Command Prompt (Admin).

a.       Press Windows key +X.

b.      Click on command Prompt (Administrator).

On the open Command Prompt window copy and paste the commands (all at once) –

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

pause

c.        Wait for the process to complete.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

d.      To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.

e.       Run Windows Update again also try to install .Net Framework.

Method 4: Temporarily disable third party security software if you have installed any.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
