Can't install apps from Store, error 0x80070005

I am unable to install any apps from the Store. I select an app, click Install and it says failed to install with error 0x80070005. Sometimes it does 'half' install the app. As in, the tile appears on the start screen. But the tile always has an X on it and is unable to be run.

This is what my Event Viewer looks like. Not sure how to get more detailed error reports.

Thanks

Edit: Oh and how do I turn off all this permissions rubbish? Keep getting told I can't go into folders, well it's my machine I'd like to be able to :/

Edit: Fixed!

I went to C:\Users<Username\AppData\Local\Packages\WinStore_<somevalue> and changed that directory's permissions to include <PCName>\Users.

So, Properties -> Security -> Advanced -> Add -> Select a Principal -> In the edit box type PCName\Users then click Check Names. It should accept that. Click Ok. Then it'll ask which permissions you want to give. Check Full Control, click Ok, then Apply, restart the Store (Alt+F4 while within it) and it should work!

Troubleshooter did not work for me.  I'm still getting the same 0x80070005 error and failure trying to install any Win10 store app.

Hi,

if winreset.exe wont work, or resetting IE options, running windows store app troubleshooter and fixing your windows update still wont work. I was only able to fixed it by creating another user account and able to download and install and it worked!. bad side is you need to transfer your files from that corrupted user account to your new one.

First, the apps.diagcab suggests using an updated windows 10 app troubleshooter, providing a button to click to download and launch it. OK, did that. It found problems with the app store and reset it and re-opened it, however STILL having the 0x80070005 error when attempting to install the app Plex for windows (it says I own it).

Additional runs of the app troubleshooter give recurring problems with Windows Store Cache that it cannot reset. I am not feeling very well assisted by these troubleshooting programs, they seem to need troubleshooting of their troubleshooting capabilities. Is Windows ever going to be easy to use?

  1. Permissions edit, no help.
  2. Run diagcab, gives button for updated windows 10 app troubleshooter, it fails complaining about the cache which it cannot repair. Old troubleshooter tried (click next as opposed to download and run update), also no help.
  3. Delete/rename/create new cache for the windows store in its expected location, no help.
  4. No proxy applicable.
  5. Error 0x80070005 when attempting to install ANY windows store app, including the feedback hub, so I can't even report the errors I'm seeing!
  6. Have rebooted after the cache manual reset, no help.
  7. So frustrated with these troubleshooters, feel they need their own troubleshooters.

I'm getting so aggravated trying to do what's a simple process on say MacOS... Why does this have to be such a frakkin' headache!?

Hi R. Bear Helms,

This error occurs when some directory/registry has no administrative privileges. With the steps below, you can assign Full Control to your user in the native Windows 10 applications directory:

Enabling Administrator mode for User Control via Command Prompt:

1. Press the Windows + Q keys and enter CMD;
2. Right-click on CMD and select Run as Administrator;
3. Paste the command below by pressing Enter:

  • REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /V EnableLUA /T REG_DWORD /D 0 /F

4. Restart the system.

Assigning permission to directory %localappdata%\packages:

1. Press the Windows + R keys, type %localappdata% and click Ok;
2. Right click on Packages and choose Properties;

3. Click the Security tab> Advanced;

4. Under Owner click Change;

5. Type Everyone and click Ok;

6. Then, enable the Replace in subcontainers and objects and Replace all child object permission entries with the inheritable permission entries of that object;

7. Click Enable Inheritance, and then click Ok> Ok> Ok.

I noticed that after applying the permission to this directory the Start Menu Search returned to work, as well as the Start Menu opening functionality. All native Windows Store apps have been updated.

I hope I have helped, if there was assertiveness, do not forget to mark as resolved, these steps can help other people!

Hugs!

This didn't fix my issue. The error changed to 0x80242022 though. Still can't install the game I paid for.
