Windows 8 isn't available for download in your country/region. I live in New Jersey

I got the error message when running the assistant on my brand new Lenovo laptop running windows 7.  Any ideas why?

When did you buy this system?  after June of this year?

IF so, your OEM maker should have given you a $14.99 upgrade opportunity.

If so, did you pre-register for that ?

If so, you have a Promo code which can be used during the purchase step of the Upgradeassistant.

To answer/suggest for your current issue, be sure your system has correct date & time for your location.

Be sure you are not executing the upgrade attempt on a system that is now running Windows 8 release/ or Win8 preview {either Consumer or Release Preview}.

IF you have a 3rd-party firewall program, turn it off and turn on the Windows firewall.

Then logoff and restart system fresh.

Then give 1 new try and redownload the Upgradeassistant, Save it to your local system.

Locate the EXE

Do a Right-click and select Run as Administrator to start it.

Good luck.  Let me know if this Helps.

Thanks Maurice.  I did pre-register for the upgrade and have a promo code.  I am running windows 7.  I don't have a firewall and I get the error after running the assistant as an admin...  not sure what is going on....

I notice (now) you are using a laptop.

I would highly urge you to connect your system (via cable-connect) directly to your router (which I hope you have ).

Do not try it on a wireless connection.

Besides date/time hints, & firewall hint.....

I would suggest you add

I just rerun the upgradeassistant and I was able to complete the purchase...  It must be a temporary fluke...   Now on to the upgrade... Thanks!

I have attempted to run the update from 3 different PC's on my network and all of them give the same message. Two PC's are running Windows 7 and one runs XP.
When I first ran the update on my PC in Brazil, I was given the option of creating a ISO, which I did, then ran the update from from a DVD that I created from the ISO. Unfortunately, the install ISO is for a 64bit version and the PC's I want to run the update on are 32bit. When I successfully ran the update on my daughters PC, located in a neighboring city in California, the update did not offer the option(s) to create different install methods it loaded files and ran the update from the PC. Do you know if there is a way to locate those files and copy them to the PC that I want to update on my network?
Really would like to take advantage of this upgrade before it expires.
I have spoken to Microsoft support and to the Windows Store support and neither have a solution for this problem.
Got to be a bug.

Hello dsdaiwa,

You must keep in mind that each system needs it's own license/product key.

You must make a upgrade purchase for each one.

Also, when you do a purchase and then using same system and make the download run, the version of Windows (32-bit or 64-bit) is determined by the bit-edness of the machine used during the "purchase".

If you have made a purchase and download, and you did not have a chance to make an ISO ......then......

you may take all contents & subfolders as-is of  C:\ESD\Windows

and burn to DVD.

The contents of C:\ESD\Windows  are what would be contained in your ISO  (if you had selected to do that initially).

If you have already made a purchase & you need a new download of the WIN8-setup files,

using the Order # and product key, then  a redo of the download is possible .

go to www.mswos.com

Provide the requested info to login and look at your account. There you will see a download link.

Beyond that, make system image backup of your new system now:

Hope this helps.  If it does, please click on the Found this helpful -Me Too  attached to my reply.

Change the compatibility of the program before you run it. I tried it with XP SP3 compatibility mode and succeeded getting into the next screen of payment. Hope it works for you.
