Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand you are getting error 0xc0000001 while installing Windows 8

I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. I will definitely help you with this.

1.      Which Operating system was installed prior to Windows 8?

2.      Did you run the upgrade assistant?

Please follow the methods.

Method 1:

a)      Insert the installation DVD or USB and boot Windows 8 from it.

b)      In the ‘Windows setup’ page select the ‘language to install’, ‘Time and currency format’ and the ‘keyboard or input method’ and click on ‘next’.

c)      Click on ‘Repair your computer’ and select ‘Troubleshoot’.

d)      Click on ‘Advanced options’ and select ‘Automatic Repair’ and select the operating system.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to insert the Windows 8 installation media and then follow these instructions:

a. Click on Repair your computer.

b. Click on Troubleshoot and then selectAdvanced Options.

c. Click on Command prompt and type the following commands and pressEnter after each command:

Bootrec /fixmbr

Bootrec /fixboot

Bootrec /rebuildbcd

d. Restart the computer.

e. Check if the issue persists.

Thank you for your reply.  Unfortunately, I didn't give you enough information.

I did run the upgrade assistant.

I had windows 8 evaluation copy on the computer.

I have tried both options.  I get the same negative result on both attempts.  It is unable to repair the pc.

Is it possible I have a bad download of windows 8?

I have a copy of windows 7 home premium.  Would it help to try to install this and then upgrade to 8?

I appreciate all of your help.

Dave

Hello Srinivas,

I had the same issue that is mentioned earlier - I built a PC, installed Windows 8.  It was working fine, then I updated a driver (Microsoft Touch Mouse), and upon restart - it wouldn't restart.  I wiped the PC, installed again, only this time - after the install and first restart - it sits at the Windows screen and does nothing.

I followed your instructions, and upon the last one Bootrec / rebuildbcd - it states that Windows zero copies of Windows are installed.

Please help - I do not understand what is going wrong...
