My region is Available for Online Purchase but Updater says NO. Yet my friends are updating a block away from me.

When I try upgrade both of my Windows 7 laptops the updater checks compatibility, allows me to process but then comes up with a message "Sorry, Windows 8 isn't available for online purchase in the country/region you are in". Yet my friends a few blocks away are upgrading no problem and South Africa is listed as an available region. Please help.

I'm getting the same problem in Toronto Canada. I've tried multiple PCs and not getting past that same screen.

Yep same situation in the UK,

Maybe it is because I have windows 8 already installed, I read somewhere you can only upgrade from win 7.

But no ways am I going through that process again

Well, on my laptop I have windows 8 installed with an invalid key, and on my desktop i still have windows 7 but both machines are coming up with the same problem.  Quite frustrating seeing as many others are downloading it without a problem.  Plus there is no support for canada customers beyond 9-5 monday to friday phone support.

i'd like to point out that by downloading the "assistant" app and setting it to windows XP SP3 compatibility, i've been able to bypass that error.

*Edit*            By doing this, I've been able to purchase it on both windows 8 and windows 7.

One last thing to note, if you set it to XP SP3 it will not ask you to burn an ISO, so select "install later" then it will make an icon on your desktop called "Install Windows".  Set that icon to Vista compatibility and run it, and the burn ISO option becomes available.

Also, the ability to burn to ISO from the download assistant is possible if originally set to Vista instead of XP SP3. :)

I took one of my machines over to my friends place who was not having this error and now it works. Only think I can think is that the problem lies with my ISP at home. Its the only difference. Unless two block away puts me into another country that I am not aware of.

In assistant "You'll need to reinstall your compatible apps and devices in Windows 8"

If this is the case, count me OUT.

Does anyone know if this is a result of running assistant in sp 3 mode?

It's only a suggestion, but its irrelevant because you are ACTUALLY running it from windows 7 (I'm assuming).  If you feel nervous, just cancel and set it to "vista" instead of "xp sp3" and that suggestion disappears.
