Windows 8 IE Metro app will not continue to play video/sound when app is not on the screen.

There seem to be no settings for video or sound to continue playing when the app is not visible on the screen, it simply pauses. I realize that I can view the content on the desktop version on IE and get the desired result. However, I prefer the full screen experience on the app version when I have it up. I know that some people would enjoy this feature so that they don't miss anything when they have to switch tasks, but I am not some people.

Also, it does not seem to make sense that video and audio will continue to play when I have a different tab open, but not a different app...

Hi Furiousbob.bw,

It’s unfortunate that Metro app will not continue to play video/sound when app is not on the screen. I will definitely help you with this.

Please be informed that it actually depends on the app you are using.

For Example, Youtube Player and the Music app continue to play even after I’ve gone to another app.  But Netflix pauses if another app is opened.

Hope it helps. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to let us know. We will be glad to help you further.

Thank you.

Same but I find it more bothersome that the Win8 Metro Video app pauses when not visible.

That's hardly a solution. I just want apps to continue to play video and/or audio regardless of whether they're on screen or not. If it works when it's in Desktop, why not when it's from 'Metro mode'?

Hi inkizi,

just it is display driver issue.

just extract the display driver package for your latop which you installed on windows 7 or xp what ever your earlier os is. Go to device manager exand display tab in it then click update device driver in it select Microsoft basic display driver and install it. After completion of installation, just again select display tab and click update driver and choose from my computer and give the path of extracted folder of your display driver and install it. It will solve the problem.

seriously?

I've updated AMD GPU driver several times following process of uninstall old, reboot, install new and that's not fixed this issue which to my knowledge is yet another poor Windows 8 design decision which is still an issue in Windows 8.1.

I don't trust Microsoft to ever fix this as there are still bugs in the desktop going back to Windows 95 days that they've ignored.

Uninstalling wont work Dennis. Amd gpu updated may be your laptop has got raedon mobility series board for which amd has stopped support. With out uninstalling your current driver just go to update driver and select from computer and it select basic display driver from Microsoft. And follow above process. It will work 100% for sure
