Program Compatibility Application Firefox won't allow uninstall in windows 8

Firefox will open when I boot or reboot the computer but if I just close Firefox and later try to reopen, it will not open unless I reboot.  I decided to uninstall and reinstall Firefox but when I click on "Uninstall" nothing happens.  I tried to get it to run in compatibility mode and got the message that it was an incompatible program.  At a loss!
