Thank you for the answer. But I also need to know: How do I find out if the version I have is compatible with Windows 8? I have been to Truecrypts website, and there it says "Truecrypt for Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000" but not for Windows 8, so I even dont know if there is a version especially for Windows 8. That was why I was wondering if I could just try to install the version I have... maybe somebody have tried that. The one I have is Truecrypt 7.1. According to Truecrypts website the latest version is called 7.1a (But it does not say anything about Windows 8 compatibility)... And then by the way: What does "interact at the kernel level" mean?

On TrueCrypt's homepage, under "Future", it says (2013-02-04):
The following features are planned to be implemented in future versions:
• Full support for Windows 8
...
I know that some people are already using TrueCrypt on Win8. What "Full support" means, and how it will differ from the way it's working now is not quite clear to me. I'm considering this option myself, but I want to make sure I'm not screwing up anything...
