I'm trying to run a program in Windows 8 that uses the Java Runtime and the program keeps saying that the Runtime is not installed (it is). How do I get Runtime to work in Windows 8?
The program is BrainStorm, for a neuroscience course I'm taking.

I tried reinstalling Brainstorm, updating Java, and other things, and it all does not work.

Thank you to anyone who can offer help for this very frustrating process!!!

I encountered a similar issue today and ended up having to download the full Java Runtime installer and install it:

I’d suggest you to download the offline package manually and try installing the same.

Refer the following articles:

Which version of Java should I download for my 64-bit Windows operating system?

Download errors: 1305, 2755, 1606, etc.

Installing Java
http://java.com/en/download/help/index_installing.xml?user_os=Windows%207

download the appropriate java setup file and save it on HD. Physically disconnect your computer from the internet, that's right -  pull out Ethernet cable or disconnect wireless connection. Install java from setup file (note: no error message). Reboot (not sure if necessary but done anyway).  Reconnect internet and your java is working.

Thank you for your reply, Andre. I've tried that, both with the 32-bit version and 64-bit version, and even with both at the same time, and none of that gets it to work. It still responds with the same message. :-(

This is what the program says:

"Unable to find a Java Runtime. Please download and install a Java Runtime from http://www.borland.com/jbuilder/resources/javaruntime.html"

If I go to that website, whatever it is referring to no longer exists. Please help. :-/

Hi.  I believe its looking for an older version of Java.  Try installing Java 1.6.x.  That's the only thing that would work for the Legacy application I'm supporting when I had the exact same problem.  After the install be sure to update your environment variables with the correct runtime path.
