I can't access the Windows 8 store. It says: We wern't able to connect to the store. This might have happened because of a server problem or the network connection timed out.

I'm connected to the internet and all of my other metro apps work.

Hi Andrew Van Nice,

Welcome to Windows 8 Community!

From your issue description I understand that you are unable to open Store and get an error message “We weren’t able to connect to the store. This might have happened because of a server problem or the network connection timed out”. Do not worry; we have got some troubleshooting steps in order to resolve the issue.

This issue might happen because of some updates in the app. You can try after some time and check if you are able to open Store.

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Method 1:

Download and run the Modern UI App troubleshooter and check.

http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/4/F24D0C03-4181-4E5B-A23B-5C3A6B5974E3/apps.diagcab

Method 2: Check if the Date, time and Time zone is set correct.

Follow the steps to set the date and time:

a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

b. Type “Date and Time” in the charms bar search.

c. Click Change date and time button.

d. Click Apply and Ok to save the date and time.

Note: Click on the Time Zone tab to check the Time Zone.

Method 3:

If you are using any Proxy connection, then try disabling the proxy connection and check.

Follow the steps to disable proxy:

a. Click the Gearbox at the top right corner in internet explorer.

b. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

c. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.

d. Select the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.

e. In the Address box, type the address of the proxy server.

f. In the Port box, type the port number.

Same answer for every one of the issues people are having with the WIndows 8 Store. No one seems to be able to get to the windows 8 store that has upgraded from windows 7.

Could someone please figure out the bug and provide a patch? There are so many threads going on now about this issue it really isn't funny.

UPDATE: Please see my note below.  This is a GP issue related to connecting to my domain.  Need to identify the Registry Key or GP setting to change.

I just wasted ... seriously 2 hours trying to get this to work.

PLEASE Fix.

Windows 7 Ult upgraded to Win 8 Pro.

Worked for a while, did updates... now I cannot get it to work.  Works fine on my fresh install.

I am having the same problem I am unable to access the store, skydrive or mail. When I click on the Icons those apps try to load but nothing ever happens. I too upgraded from win 7. Help!!! I did try the "Modern UI App trouble shooter it claim it found something and fixed it. However when I tried again nothing. I did verify my time settings and I am not using proxy connection.

UPDATE: I spent a lot of time tracking this down.  Using system restore, I was able to determine that this appears to be part of the gpupdate for my domain.  The exact Key that is causing the issue is unknown, any help here would be great.

Error symptoms:

Pre issue: Windows Store worked - all functionality with Win 8 apps is fine
Issue cause: Logged into the domain and gpupdate script occurred

Issue details:
When I goto the store app: I get either:

We weren’t able to connect to the Store. This might have happened because of a server problem or the network connection timed out. Please wait a few minutes try again.

OR

Your PC isn’t connected to the Internet. To use the Store, connect to the Internet and then try again.

Desired Resolution:
I NEED TO IDENTIFY WHICH GP Policy / Reg Key IS BREAKING Windows 8 Store.  This is an inherited GP from previous manager. The details from the winstore log are below.

Final BUMP.  Fix this please.  This will essentially end our trial of Windows 8 and we will stay with Win7 until next OS version.

I spent 2 days on the phone with MS Support trying to resolve this issue. The last thing we tried was connecting to my neighbors open wifi network... Guess what everything started working. Switched back to my own local wifi and it started failing again.

I'm using a Linksys dualband WRT610N.
My neighbor is using a WRT54G.

I've tried doing everything I can on my wifi router to get this to work. I've checked some of the forums for the WRT610N and saw that there are some issues with the router and connectivity issues but nothing specific to our issue.

So for me it seems to be my router. At some point I'll move my machine down to the cellar and try this again directly to the Comcast Cable modem just to make sure.

Still I can't explain why every other application work fine, yet MS account, Store, and sync fail?
I still think this a microsoft issue (They need to think robustness, maybe hire some folks from Apple or Google to build the store functionality, i've never had an issue with their stuff working on my local lan.)
