How to change Windows 8 app tiles back to English

I added a Spanish language pack so my son could work on his Spanish homework. It changed my tiles to Spanish on many of them but not all. I tried everything I've read in other posts to no avail, so I deleted the Spanish language pack, reset everything to English and even restarted the computer. I have checked region settings, app settings and permissions and started deleting some apps. I can not delete store and need to know how to change the title back to store instead of tienda.  Photo says fotos and there are others. its a real annoyance.

Hi Bobriceusa,

This issue occurs if the Language settings are not saved properly. I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it works for you.

Method 1:

Change the language settings back to English (Or to the desired language to which you want set to).

Follow the steps:

a. Press Windows + X key in the Windows desktop and click Control Panel.

b. Open Language.

c. Click on Add a Language and then select a desired language (Example: English) and click Open.

d. Now select a Language (Example: English (United States)).

Note: Once you are done with setting the desired language, restart the computer and check.

Method 2:

Run Microsoft Safety Scanner and check if there is any virus infection.

Microsoft Safety Scanner: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. During this 10 days, it will remove all the virus infected files and folders. I suggest you to create a backup of your data and then Install Microsoft Safety Scanner.

Method 3:

If Method 1 and 2 did not help, then try removing the Spanish Language pack and check.

Language packs are available for Windows 8 and for Windows RT:

Note: Refer the section "How do I uninstall a Language Pack".

I have the exact same issue and have gone thru all three methods, but the tiles are still in Spanish. I only have English US installed and have 0 viruses.

I have also tried all methods with no avail... My basic tiles are all in Spanish even though none of my language settings are in Spanish... I added a new Microsoft user to my computer and the tiles were all in Spanish... help?

OK, I found the solution to this.

After installing another language, you have to download and install the language pack.  Once done, and after a log-off and log-on, bam - you see the language on the computer.

When trying to switch back to English, if you just move the language up to the top, and log-off and back on, everything is still in the other language.  I just realized that you STILL have to click on options, and download and install the ENGLISH language pack and log-off and log-on before things switch back to English.  This does not make sense, because English was already on this system before I installed the other language pack, but it looks like this is what you have to do to switch back to English.

I'll see that the Windows product group gets feedback about this scenario.  It is pretty impressive that you don't need to reboot, only log out and log back in to change the language for the OS.

Hi CraigHanela and Cedes24,

First of all, I would like to apologize for the late reply.

I would like to know if you have tried the steps provided by "MSFT_SteveO" on April 19, 2014 and did it help you to fix the issue.

If still the issue persists, then try creating a new user and check if the issue is caused due to User profile corruption or not.

Create a user account:

Please reply with the status of the issue so that we can help you fix the issue.
