How do I fix runtime error 70 : Permission denied without buying any registry cleaner?

I downloaded a program and whenever I try launching it, it has the error displayed.

I'm using Windows 8 and I'm suspecting it could be due to the coding of the program that isn't compatible with Windows 8. Is that even possible?

If there's any solution for this, I deeply appreciate it! (without having to buy any registry cleaner cos I don't really trust them)

Hi Winnie,

Using third party registry cleaner or modifying registry on Windows is not recommended. Serious problems might occur if you modify or delete the registry incorrectly.

Please answer these questions in order to understand the issue better.

  1. What is the name of the program?
  2. Are you using Visual basic application?
  3. Is the program compatible with Windows 8?
  4. Did you try installing the same program on another Windows 8 computer and check if you face similar issue?
  5. Are you able to install other programs?

Runtime Error 70 Permission Denied on Windows Error Codes are caused in one way or another by misconfigured system files or program itself.

Method 1: I would suggest you to check if you face similar issue in Clean Boot mode. Clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

Disclaimer: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps from section “How to reset the computer to start as usual after clean boot troubleshooting” to reset the computer to start as usual.

Method 2: I would suggest you to run System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) and check if it helps. The System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) scans for missing or corrupted system files and repairs them.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

Method 3: If you are getting this error while using Visual Basic refer these links:

Permission denied (Error 70)

PRB: "Runtime Error 70 : Permission Denied" Occurs When Attempting to Invoke the Methods of a Secure MTS Object from a VB Application

I would also suggest you to contact the Software manufacture’s and check the settings and compatibility of the program.

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance with Windows, let us know and will be glad to help.
