windows 8 error driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

I recently updated to Windows 8 from windows 7 ultimate edition. The OS is working perfectly fine. For some reason all of the sudden today when ever i load a game like Planet side 2 or Minecraft i get this error driver_irql_not_less_or_equal? How can i prevent this? My video card is up to date and it just started happening randomly. I did update avast today. Would that of caused THIS?

Hi robeo1081,

The minidump files showed DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1) stop errors referencing the netio.sys.

The process that is crashing in many of the crashes is the AvastSvc.exe.

Your issue is similar to what was reported in the following thread;

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/windows-crashing-driverirqlnotlessorequal-ndissys/f04f6979-580f-4c77-abd7-044d950201cb

I would suggest to uninstall Avast and see if the crashes resolve.

Consider alternative security software or just use Windows built-in antivirus and firewall.
