Media center wont open on Windows 8.

Just recently built a new PC with Win 8 Pro 64 bit and purchased the Media Center Add-on.  However ,whenever I click on the WMC app icon, nothing happens. I did install a bunch of software on my machine and some of it was slightly older stuff that I had to run in compatibility mode + install other updates (from the vendor/company directly) to get them work in Win 8. I wouldn't doubt if some of the older stuff might have jacked something up - I seem to recall one of them wanting to install a .NET framework or some such thing - but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot.

I tried enabling/disabling the WMC feature checkboxes and restarting but that did not help. I tried starting the PC in safe mode to see if that would help resolve the issues but it did not. I'm out of ideas on how to troubleshoot and if there's anything I can do besides attempt the Windows 8 refresh (ugh). Any ideas to help me out? Would the refresh be worth trying? I really don't want to spend a whole day trying to track this one down and uninstalling a bunch of software that I'm not sure is the culprit or not. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you weren't able to install the feature pack you bought , There might be an app on your PC that's preventing the installation.

Media Center - Remove and Go Back to Windows 8 Pro

You could try unchecking Windows Media Center via Control Panel/ Programs and Features/ Turn Windows Features on or off/ Media Features/ Windows Media Center.  This will uninstall it.  You then reboot and then reverse the steps to reinstall it.

windows 8 media center won't start

Most new machines come with a recovery partition allowing you to go back to the time of purchase, you will have to check your user guides (or the manufacturer's Web Site) for instructions.  Choosing that path requires you to save all valuable data first.

These options are built-in to Windows 8 also.
