How do I disable the sign on screen at the start up of windows 8? I want windows 8 to start up with no sign on for any user.

I am trying to set up a new windows 8 computer for my mother, who cannot remember passwords (she is elderly), and I cannot find in the settings for windows 8 where you disable the sign on to windows with password. She does not want it to sign on with her e-mail or anything else.

Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand that you want to login to Windows 8 with password protected on your computer.

I will certainly help you with this.

A Microsoft account is an email address and password that you use to sign in to Windows.

A local account is an account that gives you access to only one PC. If you create a local account, you’ll need a separate account for each PC you use. None of your settings will be synced between the Windows 8 PCs you use, and you won’t get the benefits of connecting your PC to the cloud. If you want to download apps from the Windows Store, you’ll need to use a Microsoft account.

I would suggest you to create a local account without password, so that you need not enter the password to login to Windows 8.

Refer to the link.

Hope this will be helpful. If you still have further queries, please reply us and we will be happy to help you.

What a completely useless response. These canned responses that don't address the needs asked by the thread originator clutter search results, frustrate users, and demonstrate lack of any useful customer support. If this type of behavior persists you better believe I will be leaving Microsoft and their products for a company that actually cares what their users are looking for.

This was not helpful to me.  People, including myself, are looking for "START UP without password" - not WAKEUP.
