Hi,
I have few Windows 8 PCs and notebooks, on them, there are few Microsoft Accounts, which are synced to cloud.
I have problem with only one, new Microsoft account, which normally uses Skydrive, Outlook.com etc., however, in Windows 8, it can not connect its local account to Microsoft Account, after successful login and setup, instead of finish, there is error mesasge:
Error: We are sorry, but something went wrong. This user wasn't added to this PC. Code 0xd0000072

The problem is not in PC or in local user account, because i have tried on other PCs and using other local accounts, problem is something in this particular Microsoft account. Please help.

Based on the description, it appears that you are getting an error message "

Error: We are sorry, but something went wrong. This user wasn't added to this PC. Code 0xd0000072". I will be happy to help you.
 
1) How many computers are synced with the same Microsoft Accounts?
2) Are the computers connected on domain network?
3) Have you made any changes on the computer prior to this issue?
 

Method 1: If the computers are connected on a domain network, I would suggest you to redirect

 

Method 2: This could be an issue with the proxy settings. So, I would also suggest you to follow the steps to disable proxy settings and check.

 

Follow the steps to disable proxy:
a. Open Internet Explorer
b. Click Tools and then click Internet Options.
c. Then click the Connections tab.
d. Then click the LAN Settings button.
e. Then Uncheck the option which reads” Use a proxy server for your LAN”
f. Click apply and then ok.

Hi,
it is simple home network, with single router, no proxy servers etc.
Computer is part of homegroup, not active directory domain.
This Microsoft account is new (about 1-2 months) and was never connected to any Windows 8 computer. I have tried few of them, but same error. On this computers, my sister and others have their own connected microsoft accounts which works normally, so problem is not in my computer or network.

1) Are you trying to create a local account or a Microsoft Account?

2) Have you tried creating an account with a different email address?

I would also suggest you to check your Internet connection. If you are using any mobile device or modem check your device setting and; turn on the connection over metered devices.

Hi,
I understand process and I have done more than 250 pc/notebooks with windows 8 and home setup with connection to Microsoft account.
But only with this particular one I have problem.

It is existing Microsoft Account (which already have some data in Sykdrive etc.) and creating new Microsoft account is not an option.

Also I have tried to delete local user account on local computer, and recreate it - same error. And same error- for this account on more different computers, while on this computers other Microsoft accounts (for other users in household) normally works.

There must be problem within this particular Microsoft account - login name/email: *** Email address is removed for privacy *** , please check on your servers..

issue for this users still persits, it passed few months and nobody from Microsoft didn't do anything about this.
I believe this is because of other/old entries in background live.com database with this username. (regarding to initial thread on this user - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/admin-wlsettings/windows-live-domains-and-existing-live-id-accounts/017cab8e-97f4-4826-9037-5a59ed5c0112 )

So please check your database, and please help me to solve this.

Hi,
I have reinstalled PC.
I can normally create new local accounts, and add existing Microsoft accounts.
I do have only with this one Microsoft account - *** Email address is removed for privacy *** it simply can not be connected, the error is the same for a months - 0xd0000072
I have tried on other Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 RTM PCs.
Network and internet connectivity is fine, it is simple small home network, there is no proxy.

Please help me to connect this Microsoft account.

I found that setting the date time got rid of this error and I could add another account.  The date time on the computer was an older date.
