Disappearing account Windows 8 Home Premium..

For some reason my wife's user account can not be accessed from the log on screen. Only my own as the administrator is available. Previously her account was accessible and just recently it disappeared. Under the Windows users icon in Control Panel the account is still visible and I can still make changes to it, but once I log out and look for her account to log in, her account icon is not there. There is no arrow to click on to get to her account.

Hi William,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forums.

From the issue description I understand that the user account is disappeared in Windows 8 computer.

I understand it must be frustrating, but rest assured, we are here to help you and guide you in the right direction.

I would really appreciate if you can help me with the following information.

We do not have Windows 8 Home Premium.

1)      Which version of Windows 8 are you using?

2)      Did you make any changes on the computer prior to this issue?

This issue may occur if the user profile is corrupted. I would suggest you to create a new Microsoft account and check if it appears in login screen.

Refer to the link:

Hope it helps.

Keep us posted if you face any issues on Windows in future. We will be glad to help you.

Regards,
Anil

If you Shutdown Windows 8 fully, not the usual shutdown method offered by Windows 8, but using this Command ( shutdown.exe /s /f /t 00 ) in the Run Box (via Windows Key + R).  A complete and proper Shutdown might resurrect the Logon Screen as you want it.

See if this will give you access to the missing Account.  Read both articles and adapt them to use System Restore outside of Windows.
