After Windows 8 upgrade user account no longer has admin. rights

Just upgraded to Windows 8.  Now my user account no longer has administrator privileges as it did on Windows 7 and I am basically unable to do much of anything that I need to do.  None of the instructions I've found online to access the hidden Windows 8 administrator account work.

I am at a loss at this point.  I can't even set up a new user account and give it administrator privileges without already being on an administrator account.

Anyone have any idea what I can do from here?

Thanks!

My sister had the same problem when she upgraded to W8.  I had her unhide the admin account, log in, and set up a new user giving it full administrator privileges.  I also had her export all the favorite places she had set on her browser before so she wouldn't have to manually bookmark all those sites again.  Once she had the new user set up the way she wanted it she just deleted the old user account.

Sorry this didn't help.
