Your Windows 8 PC goes to sleep after a certain time after you step  away from it. When you come it is in sleep mode and locked. So, you have to reenter your password. However if you want to increase the time after which your computer goes to sleep then you can follow the following steps :-
  1. Open 'Control Panel' in the desktop mode.
  2. Select 'Hardware and Sound' in the Control Panel.
  3. Select 'Power Options' in Hardware and Sound.
  4. Now you will see a screen with preferred power plans. 'Balanced' power is selected by default.
  5. Click on 'Change Plan Settings'. Now in the upcoming screen you can set the time after which your display is turned off and your PC goes to sleep.
  6. Click on 'Save changes' to apply the new settings.
Thank You
