Windows 8 water mark appeared? (after install media center pack)

Just installed the media center pack, on a full version of windows 8 pro & after restarting a watermark with 'Windows 8 Pro with Media Center Build 9200' appeared in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Is this normal, if so how do i get rid of it?

Happened to me too . Turns out my windows got deactivated after installing Media center . Just reactivate windows again and the watermark will be gone in a few minutes .

I had this happen to me too, although when I checked the activation status, it still showed my copy of Windows 8 as having been activated.

I had the same thing happen to me today when I added the feature to my system.  I checked and my copy is activated, with today's date in fact.  I'm still waiting on a solid answer or fix for this as I see this is still looking to be answered. :(

Happened to me once but when I restarted it corrected itself if the key is in use in two machines it will show up permanently and will deactivate your copy until you reset.

Happened to me after a "Refresh".  Windows demanded that I reactivate and told me that my key was in use on a different machine. (A digital lie by Microsoft.)  Put me into a walled garden.

On reboot, didn't get the "must reactivate" falsehood, but do have this watermark.

Wow Microsoft.  After so much progress to 7; have you tossed it all away so casually??

The answer to my issue turns out to be that the Windows network name for this PC was changed.

So; because I, the user, changed the computer name from "Compaq-meaningless-number" to a useful name on our little network, Microsoft decided that this is a different computer. And that I, [stupidly] loyal customer, should be subjected to the not-activated walled garden.

Even a programmer should know, never depend on a value that someone else can change. That's computer stuff 101, if not pre-school. That's what hardware serial numbers and MAC addresses are for -- so that you guys can safely play with yourselves without bothering your paying customers.

Ultimately; going through the phone call from robot place-of-eternal-punishment -- reading the numbers and then copying the new numbers -- made the watermark go away.

You are just babbling to hear yourself talk. If you had investigated a little more or been a little more intuitive, you would have realized that something else was up. Although activation is one thing that can trigger the watermark, in fact this watermark appears whenever Windows 8 detects a startup or security issue, and the start screen changes back to the default Space Needle (of course, if you did not personalize it, you would not notice this part). So in fact that watermark is very useful and a very clever idea. Any time it appears you should check the notification center for information about the issue that causes its appearance.

In the case of Media Center installation, Windows 8 somewhat humorously scares itself and warns about the startup services Media Center needs and offers to disable them (say "No" of course). Once that issue is resolved the start screen returns to your personalized one and the watermark disappears.
