Can voices created with windows 8 TTS can be used freely in commercial products?

Hi Allen,

Microsoft has copyrights on all its products and applications, especially when used with Windows operating systems. You may have to purchase Distributable Rights to use Microsoft Zira’s voice in recordings.

You can refer to the following link for further information:

I have read the article - I didn't find the answer.

I also wrote email to *** Email address is removed for privacy *** - I got Mailer-Daemon with message "Recipient address rejected: Access denied".

I have almost read all Internet looking for license or prices or contact form in order to find answer for question:

"Can I use voice files generated on Windows PC using MS SAPI5 voice, in my case <Microsoft Paulina Desktop> - Polish voice in commercial products."

What is price for license for using it in commercial products?

Where canI find the answer?

Or is it free and I can just use it?

Thank you for any answer and advice.

I was wondering about this also.  Since it's a part of the System Development Kit (SDK) I would assume that Microsoft expects you to use it commercially, just like they do with Visual Net and Visual C++.

But that is not a definite answer.  However I point out that if you are using Word to write a book you don't have to pay Microsoft for permission to publish that, even though they own the copyrights on Word for Windows.

To answer your other question.  Rights to use a voice are based on company and duration.  I saw some figures starting at $200 and going up to $2,000.  But these were for ATT and other company "Natural" voices that are a lot less robotic sounding.  ZIRA is a basic voice.  At those prices I have a microphone and Windows recorder on my computer.  I'll do it myself if I have to.  If I'm going to pay $200 for a robot voice I'd be better of paying $450 and hiring a Screen Actor's Guild voice over specialist for one day to do all my narratives.
