windows 8 media player 12 gives the following error Album art can’t be changed when a song from the album is in use. Please try again later".

Windows 8 does not allow you to change album art in media player. you will constantly receive the following error, "Album art can’t be changed when a song from the album is in use. Please try again later". The mp3 file I am trying to update is not in use. 

is there a fix for this problem.

Let me ask you a question.
  • Did you make any changes to your computer prior to this issue?


As per the issue, you are getting error when you are trying to change the Album artwork.


Please follow the steps given below as trouble shooting method.
 
Method 1 : Run Windows Media Player Setting Troubleshooter.
 
Please follow the steps given below to perform Windows Update Troubleshooter.

a) Press Windows Key + W key together.
b) Write Troubleshooting in the search box present on the Top right corner.
c) Click on the Troubleshooting option obtained after the search.
d) Click on View All option present on the top left corner.
e) Select Windows Media Player Setting and click on Next to follow the steps which are prompted to you to perform the troubleshooting.
Please try the above mentioned steps and check.
 
Method 2 : Run Windows Media Player Library  Troubleshooter.
 
 
Please follow the steps given below to perform Windows Update Troubleshooter.

a) Press Windows Key + W key together.

c) Click on the Troubleshooting option obtained after the search.

You just cannot be playing a song on any device of your computer while changing album artwork etc. as Windows Media Player is where the song is truly playing from.  I had this trouble once, but I figured out that this is all it means.

Was not playing music on any device. media player was idle. this appears to be a consistent problem with version 12...

There is a very simple solution - at least it worked for me.

1. Go to the folder that contains files of your album. Delete all AlbumArt*.jpg files from the folder and Folder.jpg file; you may need to confirm your administrative rights, if you are not the owner of the files.

2. Close WMP and open it again. Go to album you want to change art for, and try again pasting or dragging your picture.

The art will change even though WMP shows the error message again.

Apparently, it is a WMP bug - it cannot delete jpg file owned by someone else, and shows misleading error message that does not explain anything.
