Sharing from photos tile app not working as expected

Hello,

I'm desperately trying to share photos with the people app or with social networks but I cannot.

I use the Photos tile app in Metro and select the Share charm, the People or social networks options are not showing up.

The people option shows up fine in IE but not in Photos app. This is incredibly frustrating to say the least!!!

The photos that I have been trying to share are jpegs and I went to the PC settings and made sure that the share options were set correctly.

Not sure if this is any help at all but I will include in case this might help.

The machine was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 via download.

The machine also a short time later had the Media Center pack installed with no issues

Any insight to helping me get this resolved will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi MarshallHeartley,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

As I understand that you are trying to share photos from Photo app to People app and other social networks, it would be grateful if you could reply to these questions to assist you further.

1. Which social networking website are you trying to share the photos?

2. Have you configured these accounts using Microsoft account in Photo and People app?

3. What happens when you select Share? What options do you receive?

4. Do you receive any error messages?

You need to add the Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin accounts added to the People app to get it shared.

Here is a link which gives you more information on sharing the Photos using People, Mail and SkyDrive.

Here in order are the answers to the questions.

The social networks that I was trying to share photos with are Facebook and Twitter.

I have configured the People app and the Photos app can view the already posted photos for my Facebook account and it does not show anything for Twitter. The People app can successfully post to and read posts from both of the fore mentioned social networks.

When I choose the Share charm while in Photos, I get the options of Email and Evernote but not the People app nor any social network. Those are the only choices I have.

No error messages are given when I select the Share Charm.

This morning I uninstalled and re installed the Photos app and still got the same result.

This is making me believe that share between the Photos and People app is severely busted!

Since it is busted, Microsoft needs to either fix the share so it works as the web site states that it does or change the verbiage on the site to reflect the current state of the app.

Hi
after looking around a bit.I found out this function is not available in win8.You can't upload a photo to facebook directly from windows 8 photo app.you can only share photo from your skydrive on facebook. Microsoft is trying to push skydrive.
try this
go to skydrive photo and try to share photo from there, you will see facebook option there
or there is another way of doing it
go to m.facebook.com
click upload a photo
you will see a email address, now write that down
go back to your photo app and click on share function in charm bar
and now click on email and send your photo to email address you got from m.facebook.com
it's the only way round it

hope that helps someone

appreciate your answer here, but it is really not acceptable.  I am a windows phone user and now a windows 8 PC user and there should be more consistency between the two, particularly with this type of function (e.g., taking a photo and sharing it on facebook, etc.).

From my phone, I can easily click on a photo and share it on facebook.

From my windows 8 PC (in metro mode via the Photos app), I can NOT do this.  This is just unacceptable.  I hope Microsoft will clean up these windows 8 apps.  There are many functionality pitfalls.

Another one I found is when you “SHARE” something via email, you do NOT have the ability to CC or BCC someone.  That is just ridiculous.  Is that an oversight or a technical limitation.  I would think technically this is a piece of cake.  So, clearly they need to have more users test this thing before releasing.

I hope someone at Microsoft is reading this and pushes these changes ASAP.  thanks.

I agree completely. I've been searching all over trying to figure out what the heck was going on and why I couldnt do something as simple as share a picture from the built in Photos app to Facebook on a brand spanking new operating system. I gave up and went back to using my Macbook where I can share practically anything from anywhere with a simple "click" and it's on Facebook/Twitter. Windows is STILL playing catch up and something as mainstream as photo sharing with social networking sites should be a basic feature nowadays. This is unacceptable.

Sharing photos from the Photos app using the Share charm to the People app (to be posted on Facebook) was working for me until TODAY. I've used that method to post several pictures, and suddenly, the option is completely gone from the charm.

I can still share web pages using this method, but the connection between Photos and People is GONE. Would really appreciate a fix here. Thanks.
