Picture do not display as thumbnail preview on Windows 8

Dear Team,

I need help on the mentioned topic. I am using Windows 8 and the Windows Explorer doesn't show thumbnail previews for images like what i used to have in Windows 7.

I have check through the Folder Options and make sure "Always show icons, never thumbnails" option is not enabled. I have also check through the System Properties and make sure "Show thumbnails instead of icons" option is enabled. However, I still couldn't get the thumbnail preview for images.

Is there any solution for this issue? Or is there any Windows updates that i should apply for my Windows 8 in order to make it work?

Kindly advise.

Thanks and have a great day.

Regards,

Andrew Khor

Hi Andrew,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I would like you to add few information:

1) Is this issue specific to any particular file or picture on the computer?
2) What is the file type of the picture that you are trying to view?

You may also try to enable or disable the thumbnail preview using group policy editor.

Follow the steps to do so:

a) Press Windows and R key together to open the run box.
b) Type “gpedit.msc” in the box and hit Enter.
c) Now, navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, and Start Menu and Taskbar in left pan of Group Policy Editor.
d) Locate “Turn off Taskbar Thumbnails” in right pane of Group policy editor and double click on it.
e) Select Disable and click on Apply and then on OK.

Check if you are able to view the images.

Do let us know about the status of this issue.

I've tried every recommendation found here and could not solve the problem. I figured it must be something I installed so I sorted my apps by install / upgrade date and found that I had just upgraded to Java version 8. I uninstalled this and Wah-lah!!! I have my thumbnails back! I hope this helps someone!

If I could buy you a drink through the internet, I would. THANK YOU.
