Netflix plugin for Windows media center suddenly stopped working on 5/13/15 - Solved!

**Update***

As of 5/16/15 at 114am CST it now works again!

Thanks microsoft and thank you Barb!

The Search fix info is on this thread, http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/netflix-search-not-working-in-windows-media-center/80d9a5be-21f3-4d56-9089-89faf560ab30

*********************************************************

Windows media center plugin for netflix no longer functions.

When attempting to play a title a script error pops up.

Regardless of clicking yes or no the netflix title will not play.

I simply see "Adjusting for better playback ifor slower connections..." in the background with an eternal spinning red circle.

Contacted netflix and they advised that they have never supported the WMC plugin.

I have tested this on 4 seperate computers, all had full functionality until the last 24 hours.

Several other reports have popped up as well.

I, too am having this issue, checked to see if any windows updates were installed, none were installed.

I tried an older version of silverlight, no luck. Also tried installing all updates (updates had not been installed since 3/29/15) Still no luck.

This is a major problem for me due to no longer being able to use the remote control with netflix.

Please MS help!!!

It must be the Silverlight update:

Silverlight 5 Build 5.1.40416.0 Released May 12, 2015

But even tried downgrading to SL 4, also not working:-(

Nope, it is not a Silverlight or any other MS update issue.  It is a Netflix software update issue.

My media center hasn't performed any MS updates for a month and suddenly stopped working today.

This has happened several times in the history of Netflix and the WMC plug-in.  The problem is that Netflix doesn't support the plug-in anymore, and occaisionally they update their software and fail to test it against WMC, and it breaks.

If they hear from enough customer complaints, they can and will fix it.  I urge you to call Netflix (phone number on their website) and complain.  If they hear from enough customers that this is broken, they usually fix it within a day...

Microsoft is aware of this issue and is investigating with Netflix. If I receive
updates on the situation, I will post them here.

Thanks Barb.  jlunman at thegreenbutton forums found this which may be helpful:

The script error is happening on the following statement:

e.OnFBConnectRequested=b(this.fbConnectPressed,this);

Trying to assign to the "OnFBConnectRequested" property is throwing an "Object does not support this property or method" error. Using a script debugger, I can skip past that statement, then the video plays fine. So it's not completely broken, just that one line of code.

I called them twice yesterday. More people need to call from their own separate accounts to apply pressure. So simple!  jlunman at the greenbutton found the bug. Only one line of code needs to be tweaked! Hope Barb gets through to Microsoft since she's our only link to continuing support for WMC. Thanks Barb!

Please, Microsoft, also fix the broken search function in the WMC Netflix app. Jlunman at TheGreenButton also identified the root cause of that issue and created a patch of sorts.

Netflix support's response to the problem is to say they don't support this app anymore and that it is Microsoft's problem.
