Error message: Windows Media Player encountered an error while burning. Verify that the burner is connected properly and that the disc is clean and not damaged.

I just started getting this message while in the process of burning CDs from library files.
NOTHING changed since the last CD burn immediately before.
Thanks.

Hi Bajan,

It looks like you are unable to burn CDs using Windows Media player.

Please answer the following question:

Which is the disc type that you want to burn? Is it an audio CD or data CD?

I would suggest you to run the Microsoft Fixit to troubleshoot issues related to CD/DVD drives that can’t read or write. Follow the methods:

Method 1:

You can refer to the link to run the fixit:

Method 2:

You may do one or more of the following, and then try again:

a. Verify that the CD burner is connected properly.
b. Clean the disc and verify that it is not damaged.
c. Try a different brand of blank discs.
d. If another program is currently burning files to the CD, wait until the burning process is complete.
e. Quit other programs that might be using the CD burner.
f. Restart Windows Media Player.
g. Restart your computer.
h. Select a slower recording (write) speed for the CD burner.

You can follow the steps to decrease the speed of burning:

a) Type media on the Start screen and click on Windows Media player.
b) Click on “Switch to Library” button in the upper-right corner of the Player to switch the mode from Now playing mode.
c) In the Player Library, click on Burn tab and then on Burn options button.Click on More burn option and change the speed of burning.

Check if it helps.

I restarted Windows Media Player and was able to continue, but saw no way to post this information in reference to my question.

Just about all of the response appears to miss that I said that I was, at the time, copying CDs, when the message came up. So, it should have been obvious that I was able to copy CDs, that the type of blank CD was fine and that the burner (pre-installed on the laptop) was properly connected.

Thanks for the response.
