Windows 8 system service exeption: blue screen all the time...

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as Riram 04 posted on december 22, 2012.

I bought my sony vaio laptop two months ago and now I got the blue screen many times a day (systeme service exception). It happens more and more often and I absolutely don't understand where it comes from. Already tried to analyze the minidump data with the windows tool kit. But even if I have the analysis now, I dont know what to do with it.

This is the bugcheck analysis:

SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b) An exception happened while executing a system service routine. Arguments: Arg1: 00000000c0000005, Exception code that caused the bugcheck Arg2: 0000000042b9f000, Address of the instruction which caused the bugcheck Arg3: fffff8801a052fc0, Address of the context record for the exception that caused the bugcheck Arg4: 0000000000000000, zero.  Debugging Details: ------------------   EXCEPTION_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000005 - Die Anweisung in 0x%08lx verweist auf Speicher 0x%08lx. Hi Julia,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft Community.

From the issue description, you are getting blue screen. I will be glad to assist you on this issue.

This error code 9F is related to driver power state failure.

I would suggest you to try the steps from the following link:

Bug Check 0x9F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (Windows Debuggers)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff559329(v=vs.85).aspx

Hope this information is helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows in future. We will be glad to assist.

Thanks for your feedback.

Also, as this is a recent System_Service_Exception error, if you have an AMD display adapter try the following tool from AMD to try to obtain the most recent graphics driver:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx

I believe a recent Windows Update,  2778344 that updates win32k.sys to version 6.2.9200.16503, may have caused a conflict with the AMD graphics driver.

Many users are reporting the same error recently and so far all have AMD/ATI graphics adapters.

Hopefully updating the graphics driver will help.

If problem persists try uninstalling KB2778344.

To uninstall KB2778344 right-click the lower left corner of the Desktop > Program and Features > View installed updates > locate "Security Update for Windows (KB2778344)' and uninstall it.

Then, for the time being, "hide" 2778344. You have to be set up to "choose" to install updates to be able to "hide" them.

Thanks for your feedback.

There is a now a microcode update for Windows 8 computers that use AMD processors:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2818604

So make sure that update, if applicable to your system, is installed.

That update may allow KB2778344 to be installed without issue.

Thank you very much auggy, I deinstalled the update 2778344 and everything is working fine ever since, no bluescreens any more. I'm really glad that the problem is solved as I'm currently writing my bachelor thesis...If I have problems again, I will install the update for AMD processors as you posted below. THANKS!!!

You're welcome.

Keep in mind that KB2778344 is a security update so for security reasons you may want to go ahead and install KB2818604 and then install KB2778344.

Then if KB2778344 still causes issues you could uninstall KB2778344 and call Microsoft support.

Support for issues from Microsoft updates are at no charge.

KB2818604, the microcode update, in and by itself may improve system stability.

KB2818604 should fix the blue screen issue resulting from installing KB2778344.
