Windows 8 seems to cut out my internet connection periodically. My mac user friends will be using the same internet connection and not experience the same problem. If I try to reconnect, it doesn't work. I have to reboot my system. This has proved to be a significant problem, since I am trying to upload the contents of my hard drive to Backblaze to back up my whole hard drive online. I want to leave the computer running for 2 weeks while I am away on vacation to let Backblaze upload, but with the internet disconnecting periodically, this is not a reliable option.
As a result of this 1st problem, I have set a the task scheduler to reboot my system once a day. That way, if the internet disconnects, then at least it will reconnect once a day when it reboots. That is where problem #2 comes into play. Even if I set my system to not require a password prompt on startup, all of the programs that load in the background upon startup, such as Backblaze, will not load until I am in the desktop. Unfortunately, Windows 8 will not load to the desktop! It loads to the metro start screen, requiring the user to manually click on the desktop launch icon to reach the desktop. This is a new problem that wasn't present in Windows 7 and XP.
So, not really sure what to do at this stage. I wish that I had purchased a Windows 7 instead of Windows 8 system.
