No sound or Video after sleep mode

Hi, I have had a problem since I upgraded to Windows 8, the problem is playing video and sound. It can be cured by rebooting, then everything works fine, until it goes into sleep mode, then when it awakes, neither the audio or video works. Any ideas?
Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft community!
As I understand you are facing a sound or video issue after sleep mode

1. What is the make and model of the computer?
2. Did you make any changes on the computer prior to the issue?
3. Do you receive any error message?

Method 1:
I would suggest you to run the audio troubleshooter after waking up the computer from sleep mode and check if it helps.

a. Press Windows key + W to search Settings.
b. Type “Troubleshoot” without quotes and click on Troubleshooting.
c. In the new window, click Hardware and Sound.
d. In the list of options, click on Playing audio.
e. Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: I advise you to check the sound and video status in device manager when sound stops working.
Press Windows Key +R, type devmgmt.msc to open the Device Manager.

Method 2:
You may try the steps from the link to solve the sound issue.

Method 3:
Try to uninstall and re-install the sound and display driver and check if it helps.
Follow the steps to uninstall the sound drive:
a. Press Windows Key + X and then click Device Manger.
b. Search for sound drive and video driver.
c. Right click the sound and display drive and click uninstall.
d. Follow the prompt and restart the computer.

Note: If the driver is not compatible with Windows 8 I would suggest you to install the driver in compatibility mode.
Refer the steps:
a. Download the Drive from the manufacture’s website, Right click on the setup file and select Properties.
b. Click the compatibility tab, tick the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I am using a HP G70 laptop, that was using Vista.

However I have recently upgraded to Windows 8 and now whenever it awakes after being in sleep mode there is no sound and when it attempts to play a video online the video freezes after about 4 or 5 seconds. This happens on all browsers.

I can cure it by rebooting, but it continues to happen every time it goes to sleep.

I have followed the steps below but the trouble shooter says everything is fine and I have removed and reinstalled the sound drivers.

Any further help you can suggest will be most welcome.

Regards

Mike
