Hi Peter,

It looks like you are having a tough time as the start screen goes black in your computer.

I would like to gather some information on this issue to help you better:

1. What is the make and model of the computer?

1.    Have you changed the High contrast theme settings?

2.

I would suggest you to follow the methods given below and check if the issue persists.

Method 1:

If you have changed to High Contrast Theme settings, then to change this

1.    Right click on desktop.

2.    Select the option personalize.

3.    Check if High Contrast theme has been seletected.

4.    If yes, then change to Windows theme and check.

If the issue persists I suggest you to perform system restore and check if it helps.

Method 2: Perform System Restore from Advanced Options screen.

Follow the steps:

a) After you boot your computer using Windows DVD or System Repair Disc, a black screen appears with gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press any key.

b) Select the correct time and Keyboard type.

c) Click Repair your computer in the lower left corner.

d) Select Troubleshoot from Choose an option screen.

e) Click Advanced options in Troubleshoot screen.

f) Select System Restore.

System Restore will turn back time for your PC: while your documents and files will always remain.

Hope this helps to fix the issue, if the issue still persists, please feel free to post. We will be glad to assist
.
