Corrupted .cab files

Hello,

Im having problems with my windows for a while now.. everything started with some nasty thing i got on my PC called TubeDimmer, anyway i maniged to remove that, but ever since i got it when i try watching videos on the internet they get blurry and really pixely at some point and if i try to play a .GIF it just stops at some point... when i watch something on netflix i got same + after i watch a while i got a message saying there are issues with my Microsoft silverlight (im using windows 8 btw)... I got really annoyed of all that and i thought windows refresh would help... it didnt... i tried the windows recovery - didnt help aswell.... what happened is after i did the recovery i lost all my programs and i cant install them now.
after i try to install Microsoft Silverlight i get - file is corrupted.. i tried running the silverlight troubleshoot it didnt help
when i try to install Java i get - data1.cab corrupted
when i try to install Skype i get - Product.cab corrupted
Some programs i maniged to install, but with most im having huge struggles and i really dont know what to do now
I think that TubeDImmer thing made some damage to my Windows for which i cant find a solution... and now its not just the crappy videos i need to deal with, but also the messed up installer. If anyone knows anything that can be a good solution PLEASE HELP
Thank you

Hi Martin,

This issue can be caused due to caused due to System Files are corrupted or due to virus.

Let’s try the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

I would suggest you to run the Microsoft Safety Scanner and check if there is any virus.

Microsoft Safety Scanner:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again. Any data files that are infected may be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Method 2:

I recommend you to perform a Startup Repair and check if it helps.

Startup Repair is a Windows 8 system recovery tool that can fix certain problems, such as missing or damaged system files.

To perform Automatic repair on Windows 8 computer follow these steps:

a.     Insert the media such as (USB or DVD) and restart your computer.

b.     Press F12 key (typically this is F12, but it can differ between computer manufacturers) and choose the drive that you inserted the installation media into.

c.     Once the Windows Setup window appears, follow these steps:

d.     Click next and select Repair your computer.

e.     You will then see a blue screen and an option to choose. Choose the option Troubleshoot and select advanced options.

f.      You may choose Automatic Repair from Advanced boot option.

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Keep us posted on the status of the issue.

First of all thank you very much for your reply to my issue.

I Tried the suggested method 1... and nope Microsoft Safety Scanner didn't want to install.. i downloaded it and tried to install it several times as suggested in the troubleshoot website, but unfortunatly no success, as for Method 2 .. i don't have windows on a media (DVD or USB) it came installed with my laptop... Do you have any other suggestions .. or what ? :S I'm really stuck right now really cant come up with any ideas.. I really don't want to go and give 150$ for a windows 8 disk... since i already have it, it just doesnt want to work properly :(

Thank you once again

Hi Martin,

Since the system came pre-installed with Windows 8 Operating system, I would suggest you to contact the System Manufacture’s for the disc.

We need a disc to perform further task.

OK i expected that reinstalling everything with a disc is going to be the only left solution for me, so i will probably go and buy a new windows 8, but since i kinda suck with anything that requires computer skills can you please tell me:

1. After i buy a new Windows 8 - is the installation process hard, and is there a chance where i can mess up big time and actually keep my damaged version of windows, or all i need to do is put the cd and let it do its work
2. Do i need to make to do something to make sure i get rid of all the corrupted stuff on my current Windows, or again the new Windows will do everything by itself
3. There shouldn't be a problem to replace windows 8 with a different windwos 8 right ?

Probably these are stupid questions, but i just wanted to be sure about these stuff before i buy new Windows 8 DVD

Thank you !

Hi,

You may try installing the New Windows 8 Operating System on a different driver, which will help us to view all your previous files folder.

To keep the system secure and function, I would suggest you to keep the PC up to date  using “Windows Update”.

Always keep the Anti-virus software and firewall Turn On (Activated).
