Windows 8 File Explorer Network Drops Win 8 PC from Network View

I have two PC's, Win 7 Home Premium and Win 8 Pro, which share public folders.  Both PCs connect to a Linksys wrt310n router via cat5e cables. As long as the Win 8 Pro is the master browser the public folders on the Win 8 Pro are available to the Win 7 PC.  When the Win 8 PC is the master browser, the Win 8 File Explorer shows the both PCs. If the Win 7 PC becomes the master browser then the connection between Win 7 and Win 8 PCs is dropped.  When Win 7 is the master browser, only the Win 7 appears in Win 8's File Explorer. I can move files from Win 8 to the Win 7 PC, but I cannot move files from Win 7 to Win 8.

I have tried the Troubleshooters mentioned above. The network / internet wizard finds nothing wrong, Both PCs always have access to the internet regardless of who is the master browser.  When I run the network adapter wizard on the Win 7 PC is says the Win 8 Pro address does not exist. Strangely, the Win 8 Pro PC has full access to the Win 7 PC's public folders which means the adapter is connected to the network.

Any ideas to resolve this would be appreciated. Thanks!

1.      What exactly do you mean by master browser?

Reply: please see Command Window responses which follow:

C:\Users\Allen>nbtstat -a win8pro

Ethernet:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.1.101] Scope Id: []

           NetBIOS Remote Machine Name Table

       Name               Type         Status
    ---------------------------------------------
    WIN8PRO        <00>  UNIQUE      Registered
    NxxxxxxxN      <00>  GROUP       Registered
    WIN8PRO        <20>  UNIQUE      Registered
    NELSONLAN      <1E>  GROUP       Registered
    NELSONLAN      <1D>  UNIQUE      Registered
    ☺☻__MSBROWSE__☻<01>  GROUP       Registered

    MAC Address = 00-19-21-EF-9F-CD

Note that the line: "☺☻__MSBROWSE__☻<01>  GROUP       Registered" indicates the Win8PRO PC is the master browser for the network Workgroup, "NxxxxxxxN".

Now here is the Win7Home PC:

C:\Users\Allen>nbtstat -a win7home

Ethernet:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.1.101] Scope Id: []

           NetBIOS Remote Machine Name Table

       Name               Type         Status
    ---------------------------------------------
    WIN7HOME       <00>  UNIQUE      Registered
    NxxxxxxxN      <00>  GROUP       Registered
    WIN7HOME       <20>  UNIQUE      Registered
    NELSONLAN      <1E>  GROUP       Registered

    MAC Address = 00-19-D1-3A-05-52

Note that the line: "☺☻__MSBROWSE__☻<01>  GROUP       Registered"  is absent for this Win7Home PC  in this Workgroup, "NxxxxxxxN".

2.      Are you getting any error message while accessing the Windows 8 computer?

Reply: No errors when accessing the Win8Pro PC from the Win7Home PC.

3.      Were there any changes made to the computer prior to the issue?

Reply: Yes, this has been a problem from day 1.

Windows 8 Pro was a clean install, and all the Windows Updates have been applied.

I have a third Windows 7 Pro PC which never drops from the Windows Explorer Network windows of the two Win 7 PCs. The problem is Windows 8 Pro File Explorer Network window dropping the Win 8 Pro PC.

In my pursuit of a resolution, I have turned OFF Norton Internet Security and firewall to no avail. When the Win 8 Pro PC drops from File Explorer, a re-boot of the Win 8 PC restores it to File Explorer Network window.

I appreciate any help or ideas you can contribute. Thanks!

I just bought a ASUS Laptop with Windows 8 (not pro) and have the very same problem. I never drop the Internet, but my connection to my "always on" Windows 7 Computer is on/off all the time I have tried everything including resetting my router. I have another Windows 7 laptop and it is rock solid. I also would love some help with this.
