Windows 8 export wireless data to flash drive

How to I export wireless data to a flash drive so I can set up wireless on my computer downstairs

Hi Joe,

In order to take the backup of the Windows 8 WiFi Network profiles on your computer and to import it to another Windows 8 computer, you may try these steps and check if that helps.

How to Backup Wireless Network Profiles in Windows 8 to USB

a)       Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard and select “Control Panel” from the menu.

b)       Go to “Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center”.

c)       On the left-hand pane, click on “Manage wireless networks” Link. (You will see all connected wireless networks here.)

d)       Right-click on the Wireless network that you would like to backup its setting and select “Properties

e)       Under “Connection” tab, click on the link: “Copy this network profile to a USB flash drive” at the bottom of the window.

f)        Insert your USB flash drive into the computer and click “Next” button and follow the wizard to copy the Wireless Network settings onto your flash drive.

Once this is done, you may remove the USB drive from the computer and then import the Wireless Network settings from the USB drive to another Windows 8 computer by follow the steps given below:

How to Import Wireless Network Settings in Windows 8

a)       Connect the USB drive to the other computer.

b)       Open the File Explorer and navigate to the USB drive.

c)       Double-click on the file: “setupSNK.exe”, and click “Yes” button to confirm the action.

Hope this is helpful. You may post all your queries related to Windows on Microsoft Community Forums and we will be happy to help you.

Regards,
Rajesh Govind - Microsoft Support Engineer

He is probably a v-microsoft.com employee.  That means he doesn't really work for Microsoft, he's a paid contractor that simply replies with technet articles.  The issue here is that the solution above is a technet article is word for word except for replacing 7 with 8.  You never get good support from Microsoft unless you get to tier 2.  I'm a VLSC Enterprise Administrator and I've had this experience first hand on dozens of occasions.  That's why we pay for premier support so we get straight to the engineers (not a support tech with engineer in his signature title)

It also doesn't exist in Windows 10 (as of build 10130).

If MS wants this OS to be the "ONE" then they should consider putting it back or creating a better interface to manage and transfer wireless settings/connections.
