peer to peer in windows 8

Hi,

I have two laptops, one running windows 8 and one running linux. They are connected to each other via a crossover cable.
I configured linux with 10.10.0.1/255.255.255.0.

Windows 8:
start > control panel > network and internet > view network status and tasks >
unidentified network > ethernet > properties > internet protocol version 4:

ip: 10.10.0.10
netmask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 10.10.0.10

turned off wifi and norton firewall. However this doesn't work. I can't ping the linux machine from win8, and vice versa. To further test this, I usb-booted a fedora linux from the win8 laptop, and I'm able to ping each machine just fine.

is there anything else I should be doing on the windows 8 machine to get peer to peer working? thanks in advance
