My Canon wireless printer has been working fine but is now giving an offline error message.

I have a canon wireless printer set up and it has been working fine on home network.  I now get a message saying printer offline.  This only applies to the windows 8 pc.  I can still print from a win 7 laptop without changing anything.  How can this be ?

Hi Ed,

I suggest you to follow the steps given below and check if the issue persists.

Do you remember making any changes prior to this issue?

Let us try setting the Printer as default, before that run printer troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run Printer Troubleshooter.

a) On the Metro Start screen select control panel or right click on the bottom left corner on the desktop to select control panel.
b) Select Troubleshooting. Click on view all and select Hardware and Sound.

c) Select the Printer troubleshooter and check.

Let us check the status of printer in control panel and set it as default printer.

Method 2: Check the status of the printer at Control Panel. Set it to online.

a) Press Windows key + X, select Control panel

b) Select Hardware and Sound.

c) Click Devices and printer.

d) If the Printer is offline, it shows “Offline” status. If the Printer is online it shows “Ready”.

e) If the Printer is offline, set it to online

f) Right-click on the printer and select “Set as default”.

g) The display should change to ready when the printer is set to default.
