Hook up my tablet to Internet via my laptop

I've got cable internet hooked to my laptop.  I want to share that connection with my tablet.  How do I do that?  Can I hook up USB thru the laptop and then what settings do I change?  thanks

Hi James,

Welcome to Microsoft Community!

You want to share internet connection using laptop.

To share internet connection, make settings accordingly and connect the tablet to computer using USB connection.

To make settings:

a. Right click left bottom corner of the desktop.

b. Select Control Panel.

c. Select Network and sharing center.

d. Click on Set up a new connection or network.

e. Click connect to Internet.

f. Click Setup a new connection anyway.

g. Choose how you want to connect.

h. Put check mark for Allow other people to use this connection.

i. Click connect to complete.

Now connect the tablet to computer using USB connection to share the internet connection.

Hope this helps. If you need any further assistance or if you face any Windows issues in future, let us know and we would be glad to help you.

You might look at Connectify or Virtual Router to turn a WiFi equipped laptop into a wireless hotspot and connect the WiFi equipped tablet that way...

IMHO your better off purchasing a wireless (WiFi) broadband router (if its in your budget) and connect the tablet to the internet that way.

Hello Deepak,

Hearty greetings.

I have direct internet [ 3G ] access in my PC [ Windows 7 HB ] through data card connected to USB port. I wish to connect tablet to the internet through the above PC. Is it possible by pairing both through Bluetooth and checking the allow other people to use this connection box in the present internet connection ( sharing tab ) and unchecking the last check box. When I check the above box the system wants to save username and password.

Thanks.

This is not working for Windows 10.  It is asking me for ISP name and password.  I don't use a name but my router has a password.  I'm not sure what to do?
