Ethernet peer to peer issues

I am running Windows 8.1 on a new HP Envy computer. I have connected the HP directly to an iMac running Yosemite (the latest operating system} via an Ethernet cable.

The connection is used mainly from the HP to access files on the iMac from the HP and to back up files from the HP to the iMac.

The connection has worked perfectly in the past but it appears due to a recent Windows update it will not work reliably. The HP shows the iMac in the network control panel for Windows but will not connect. Diagnostics report by Windows on the Ethernet connection reveals the following messages from Windows:

Windows can communicate with the name resolution server but can't find the host name."

The diagnostic report in detail states the following

Ethernet adapter Ethernet:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :

   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : EC-B1-D7-93-0B-F3

   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.107(Preferred)

   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

   NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled

The iMac:

The iMac network control panel shows Ethernet as connected, active, and has IP address 192.168.2.107

tcp/ip enabled.

Configure Ipv4 manually ….. address 192.168.2.1

If you can assist me with getting this peer to peer network operating reliably again, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi,

Be sure to check the cable and connections.

Have you tried updating or re-installing the Ethernet driver? Also check with HP Support and
their forums (as well as Mac's) because this could be a known issue with a solution available.

PL

It is possible that you do.  Are any of the machine set to static IP?

Please download the app>run it>upload the output file to onedrive or any other file sharing service  http://1drv.ms/1wzYw38

After you have the first file please type these commands into an elevated command prompt (it should say Admin on top)  Type these one at a time then hit enter after each one

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

NETSH winsock reset catalog

NETSH int ipv4 reset reset.log

NETSH int ipv6 reset reset.log

Exit

Then run the networking app to make a second file and upload both.  That way we will have a before and after
