"Ethernet" doesn't have a valid ip configuration.

Hello, I am new to the forums and this will be my first post, so I am sorry if I am doing this wrong. But anyway, my situation is that I am in a college dorm room, in my room I have 1 Ethernet plug on the wall. I have a Dynex modem that I plug into the 1 spot to give me 4 ports as I have my girlfriend bring her laptop over and I have my Xbox in the door with me. Anyway, as of yesterday the internet was working just fine, then it just randomly stopped working. I have a new HP Windows 8 Laptop, I have tried rebooting the computer, disable/re-enable the Ethernet Status. I even tried a system restore but it was saying that my anti-virus wasn't allowing it, I had Norton, so I uninstalled it, I currently have no anti-virus. To sum up the issue I have no internet connection when I am plugged into my modems port, but when I unplug the modem and use the 1 port on the wall I have internet connection. I will post the ipconfig /all results for when I am plugged into the modem, without internet. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Talk to your school it help desk.

Already wired with Ethernet, you shouldn't be using a modem.  Just a network switch... or wifi access point ....or router reconfigured as an access point or switch.  !!but not any modem !!

When I try to call and contact the school for internet issues I get outsourced to India and nothing is resolved. I didn't mean modem as well, it is a router, but essentially I am just using it as an Ethernet splicer to allow multiple access points.
