can a windows xp computer network with a windows 8 computer

I have three win XP computers on a peer to peer network. I purchased a win 8 laptop. I also purchased win 8 pro upgrade. Now I want to connect a Tax program on the win 8 computer...for speed (the laptop has 8gb of memory. I can see the win XP computers from the Win 8...but the win XP computers cannot see or access the win 8 files. How can I get this done.

Windows 8 and Windows 7 networking are very similar so use these methods.

Note using Win Key + X and Win Key + W (to get to Control Panel, Run,
and Settings as needed). Win Key + D calls the desktop and the using
Win Key toggles Desktop and Start Screen.

These should help :

Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP

Home Network Setup connecting windows 7, xp and vista

Networking home computers running different versions of Windows
