What is the printer connected to--another computer or your wireless router? Since it works when it is plugged into the computer directly, it must be an error in the network setup. Wireless printer has to be connected to the network somehow. You can connect it to the router either wired or wireless. Or you can connect it to another computer and share it on the network. Follow the directions for setting up a wireless network printer at Canon Support.

I have the same problem. But the kicker is if you remove the printer and re-install the driver it works, but only until you restart the computer. So it is set up correctly and works fine as a wireless printer until you restart.
