Windows 8 Pro Dell studio 1558 AMD hd5470 BSOD

Every time my screen dims or turns off during running and i shake mouse etc to light back up i get a blue screen of death. After searching around the net it seems to be a recurring issue with Dell Studio 15 (1558) with ATI Radeon HD 5470 and nobody has found a fix, all the latest driver updates are not working either! Please help! Thanks Very Much!

It may help to look at the minidump files from the crashes with a debugger.

Can you zip up the minidump files in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and make available (provide link) via Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site?

The following link has information on using Windows Live SkyDrive:

If you have problems zipping the minidump files copy the minidump files to another location such as a folder on the Desktop

Also, you do not necessarily have to zip up the minidump files, you can upload them one at a time.

I am having the same question, though the issue was recurring BSOD on restart giving two error messages,

system thread exception not handled
AND
error related to access of non-accessible memory.

The system is the same Dell Studio 1558 with AMD HD5470.

I was totally disappointed and had to revert back to windows 7 :(.
In a way it felt like the purchase gone to waste...

Please look into the solution soon :)

HI,

I have shared the minidump files on my dropbox, hopefully this will help! Because I really have no idea what i'm doing with these! Thanks!

There may be some minidump files unrelated to this issue, however I have no idea why the BSOD occurred on those, seemed to be a memory issue or something?

The minidump files showed SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e) and ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY (fc) stop errors and all referenced the atikmdag.sys which is the ATI display driver.

Of interest is that the following driver appears consistently as an "unloaded module":

FxOSDdrv64.sys

Would you know what software would have installed the FxOSDdrv64.sys?

Here is some info on the driver:

I was having the exact same issue. I installed the driver from here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx
It shows up as 9.2.0.0 in Device Manager.

I've gone to suspend and back a few times now and it hasn't blue screened on me yet so it seems to have fixed it.

Can you please explain stepwise the procedure to prevent the BSODs?
Also, is there a working ATI Catalyst driver for HD5470 available for windows 8...I want to play games also :D
or will we have to disable the ATI driver for preventing BSODs

For me, I did not install any ATI driver after installing Windows 8..Is it downloading some drivers by default which is creating a problem..Can you give some more details about the work around for the issue?

I have no idea where it might have been installed from. Would you be able to give a guess on the time these issues will be sorted? Eg a driver update to fix?
