Hi Philip,

I understand that you are facing compatibility issue when trying to access webcam with your windows 8 operating system. Please answer the following questions for better understanding of the issue:

1) What is the model number of the computer?

2) Are you using an internal or an external webcam?

3) What is the status of Webcam in the device manager?

Method 1: Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter to diagnose the exact issue.

a) Press “Windows Key + C” to open Charms Bar.

b) Select Search option.

c) Select “Settings” then type “Troubleshooter” in the Search box and hit enter.

d) Select “Hardware and Sound” from the Troubleshooter Window.

e) Select “Hardware and Devices” under Sound option.

f) Follow the On Screen instructions.

I would recommend you to refer to the following link and check if your webcam is compatible with Windows 8 Operating system. If it is not compatible I would suggest you to uninstall the Camera drivers from Device Manager and then Re-install the drivers from manufacturer’s website in Windows 7 compatibility mode and check its functionality.

Update the drivers for the Webcam by downloading the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

If there are no drivers available for Windows 8, I would suggest you to download windows 7 drivers and install them in compatibility mode.
