Hi Giovaz,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community Forums. We are here to assist you with all your Windows related issues.

It seems that you are getting a blue screen error with the error message: “driver power state failure” whenever you shut down or restart your Windows 8 computer.

These type errors usually occur with a Blue Screen on the computer, when a serious problem causes Windows 8 to shut down or restart unexpectedly. There are multiple reasons why this type of errors occurs on the computer. They usually happen when there are some driver issues in the computer. However, it might also be due to some other software/hardware reasons. Let’s try out some basic troubleshooting steps and check if that works. You can refer to the link to check for the details on this issue:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff559329(v=vs.85).aspx

I would suggest you to check if all the updates offered from Windows update are installed on the computer.
You can refer to the link to check for the update history:

Windows automatic updating: Frequently asked questions

Follow the section “How will I know what updates have been installed?

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-update-faq-rt

If any of the updates have failed to install, I would suggest you to install the update and check if you face the same issue again.

Method 1: Disconnect all the unnecessary external devices connected to the computer (except the mouse and the keyboard)

I would suggest you to disconnect all the unnecessary external devices connected to the computer (except the mouse and the keyboard) and then check if you are still have this issue. This is to check if the issue is caused by any external devices connected to the computer.

Let’s run check disk on the computer and check if it finds any error. You can follow the methods:

Method 2: Check for the errors in the hard drive

You can refer to the link to perform disk error checking on the computer:

Follow the section “To repair a drive”:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/improve-performance-optimizing-hard-drive

Important: Data available on bad sectors might be lost when chkdsk tries to repair your hard disc.

Method 3: Run Driver Verifier

If method 1 does not help, I would suggest you to run driver verifier on the computer and check for any driver that has caused the error on the computer.

You can refer to the link to get the details on driver verifier:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff545448(v=vs.85).aspx

You can follow the steps to run the driver verifier on the computer:

a)       Type “cmd” on the start screen and select “Command Prompt”.

b)       Type the following command without quotes and press Enter from the keyboard:
“verifier”

c)       Select “Create standard settings” option and click on Next.

d)       Click on “Automatically select all drivers installed on the computer” option.

e)       Click on “Finish” option.

f)        Restart the computer.

g)       Follow the steps to open verifier window on the desktop.

h)       Select “Display information about currently verified drivers” option and click on Next.

i)         Under driver column, check for the drivers that are having issues.

Make a note of the drivers which are having issues on the computer and get back to us including that information in your reply.

Please do get back to us with the results of the above methods and with all the additional information. We will be glad to help you further.
