Microphone no longer functioning with Windows 8? (Code 10)

Recently updated to Windows 8, and in turn has caused my Blue Snowball to no longer function.
I have attempted reinstalling the Windows drivers used for this device, according to Blue "The Snowball is a direct plug n' play mic that connects to either a Mac or PC - no additional software is needed." I've attempted clearing the motherboard cache, anything else I could try, to fix this?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community forum.

From the problem description, I see that you are unable to use internal Microphone after installing Windows 8 and receive error code 10.

I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. We are here to help and guide you in the right direction.

Method 1:
I would suggest you to run hardware and troubleshooter and check if it helps.
a) Press “Windows Key + R”, type Control Panel.
b) Then type “Troubleshooter” in the Search box and hit enter.
c) Select “Hardware and Devices” from the Troubleshooter Window.

Method 2:
If the issue persists,
I would suggest you to install latest drivers for Microphone from the manufacturer website and check if it helps.

Note: If there are no Windows 8 Microphone drivers you may try to install the driver in compatibility mode.

Install the driver in Compatibility mode:

a. Download the latest Microphone driver for Windows 7 from the manufacturer’s website and save it on your local disk.
b. Right click on the setup file of the driver and select “Properties”.
c. Select “Compatibility” Tab.
d. Place a check mark next to “Run this program in Compatibility mode” and select Windows 7 from the drop down list.
e. Let the driver install and then check the functionality.

Do get back to us and let us know the status of the issue, I will be glad to help you further. We, at Microsoft strive towards excellence.

After attempting Method 1, I received a prompt stating that there was a driver problem and it was not fixed. For the full detailed explanation of issues found, see the screenshots below.

Method 2 is an impossible task for the Blue Snowball, considering it uses the audio drivers included with Windows.

As of 1/8/2013 Blue responds that "none" of their products are Windows 8 compatible and they do not know if they ever will be.  They suggest reverting to Windows 7 as their only solution.

Blue is working on making Windows 8 drivers. If you keep trying to plug it, the snowball will work at random times. I am not sure when it will be entirely complete, but they are working on it, don't worry.

I have contacted them for weeks, they know me by name now!
