I have plugged this Generic Bluetooth adapter to my Windows 8 system and I get a code 10 message (it cannot start). It appears it has a very "old" driver dated back to June 2006. However, when I search on line for an updated version, I get a message that
I have the most recent one. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing it with no success. Any ideas?

What is the make and model of the Bluetooth Adapter?
In-order to fix the installing Bluetooth Adapter issue, you can try these methods.
Run the hardware troubleshooter and check the issue status.
Follow the steps:
a.Press “Windows key + W”.
b.Type “Troubleshooter” in the Search box and hit enter.
c.Select “Hardware and Sound” from the Troubleshooter Window.
d.Select “Hardware and Devices” under Devices option.
e.Follow the On Screen instructions.
Install the Optional Updates on your computer; this might fix the Bluetooth Adapter issue
Please check Windows Update to make sure that you have downloaded and installed all of the latest updates, including optional updates.
To check for driver updates.
a. At the Start screen, type Windows Update.
b. Click or tap Settings on the right side of the screen, and then select Install optional updates from the left results
c. When the Windows Update control panel opens, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner to receive a fresh list of updates
Download the Bluetooth Adapter driver from the manufacturer’s website, install on your computer and check the issue status.
If you do not find that Windows 8 compatible driver; download Windows 7/ Windows Vista compatible driver, install in compatible mode.
