Canon ip3500 Windows 8 "driver is unavailable"

I'm am unable to connect and print with my Canon IP3500 printer now that I have Windows 8.  On the windows website it says that a driver may be needed (obviously a driver is needed) but the Canon website that it redirects you to says that there is no driver for windows 8.

Can I try a driver for a different operating system?
Is there somewhere else to download the driver?
Answer
Answer
I contacted canon support and they gave the link to the IP3500 driver for 64 bit windows:

http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/printers/InkJet/PIXMA_iP_series/PIXMA_iP3500.aspx?DLtcmuri=tcm:14-1000608&page=1&type=download

It is on their UK site. They could not explain why it is not on the USA site.

This driver won't let me create the printer using USB port, so I install it on com1 and then manually add the actual printer using usb port and the ip3500 series driver that it created. Note the ip3500 series entry is created in a random place in the list of canon printers, so scroll through the whole list to find it.
