Windows 8 Professional (RTM) Games Metro App keeps crashing

When I first open the application, it's fine. If I scroll to the left within the application, it crashes but doesn't pop-up anything. I went to my application log and found this.

Hi Matty,

Thanks for the post. Unfortunately the issue is not clear, please clarify these questions so that we can understand the issue and help you better.

a.       Which game application are you using?

b.      Is the application downloaded from the Windows Store or from some other source?

I would suggest that you run the App troubleshooter and check. Download and run the Modern UI App troubleshooter.

Thanks for your feedback.

1.) I'm using the built-in games application that ships with Windows 8 that includes the Xbox Live integration.

2.) It's built into the operating system.

Also of note, I'm using the WHQL NVIDIA drivers for my GeForce GTX 285.(http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/49949)

I am having a similar issue with the Remote Desktop app - it works for a bit - then vanishes (crashes).

This is Win8 Pro on a Win7 Ultimate upgraded DELL XPS15 Laptop.

"Normal" Desktop version of Remote Desktop works fine and reliably.  The "Metro" version looks cool, but is not reliable on my computer.

Although after looking at the error log on the remote machine, it looks like a credentials issue: every time I try to access any folder in Explorer, that's when RD crashes.  And the error is:

The Terminal Server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client. Client IP: fe80:0000:0000:0000:358a:5eda:00ec:274c.

Might be related to the new login with email - the remote machine is still win7 with only my old non-live login id on it.

Although I have a WD Sentinel Server with Win 2008 Server on it and it doesn't crash RD.

Growing pains, I guess...

Hi,

I am having a similar issue on my new windows 8 laptop.

When playing on the Sims 3 I move to the bottom left quarter of the screen and it either switches to the desktop or switches to another open app.

It doesn't close the game and you can click on to it again but it is really irritating. It only seems to do this when I am running off of the battery too.

Thanks.

Hi,

Let's try the following:

1.       Type cmd on the Start screen.

2.       Right-click on it and select Run as administrator.

3.       Type the following command and press Enter: sfc /scannow

Please let me know if this helps.

Thanks!

I have had the same issue.

Tried SFC /scannow

Tried OLE regfix

Tried Local user account

Tired turning windows FW off.

Tried a seperate user account.

Tried MSCONFIG and disable all non-MS services and startup items.

I'm an MCSE amd this has me stuffed might have to try a "refresh" although I don't feel like reinstalling all my apps... So if anyone has a fix.

Also I have Kaspersky, tried removing and still have the same issue.
